WG 2.6: Water systems analysis for integrated planning & management
Resumo
Among the others, the International Commission on Water Resources Systems (ICWRS) of IAHS is so far the only commission focusing on the methodology of application of hydrological sciences to society. For a secure, sustainable and more fair water future, nowadays we need more comprehensive and adaptive solutions that can help to meet the global challenges posed by the increasing complexity of the systems and increasing uncertainties. These challenges are highlighted in this commission paper as population growth; climatic change; land use change; population distribution and migrations; and interactions between people and the environment. We aim to evaluate the current challenges as well as provide the lessons learned from some selected cases. The future perspective of WRS is apprised under better adaptation to challenges, linking past and future with concrete ideas and action plans and providing an outlook with some possible solutions. At this point, ?systems approach? provides the most appropriate methodology for current and future challenges. Additionally, the operator and decision makers will be guided by the lessons acquired from earlier situations so that future initiatives may build upon and avoid making the same mistakes.
