Resumo

Vila da Paz area in Teresina, in the state of Piaui, has suffered with floodings and landslides throughout the years since its irregular occupation in mid 80's. The area has been a fertile ground for slum-type housing and traffic dealing growth. The development project encompasses the total urbanization of the surronding area, with channelization of a existing stream, water supply and sewage collection networks, street paving and signal and striping on the vicinity area, energy supply and a linear park. Its also part of the project the design of community facilities such as a sports center, a community market shop area and a child care facility. The population dwelling in the degraded area has been relocated to new residential developments, currently being constructed by the local municipality. The project has been funded by the federal government through Caixa Economica Federal Bank and Ministerio das Cidades.
