Resumo

The growth of urban population in Brazil is one of the factors that contributes to the disorderly occupation in cities. The precariousness of urban planning on the expansion dynamics of the cities that has occurred in recent times the population carries risks, such as flooding. To avoid damage social, economic and environmental factors that may cause flooding some actions are necessary, calls control measures, or unconventional measures. The detention basins are structures that contribute to the reduction of impacts of urbanization on the hydrological processes in urban watersheds, providing the accumulation of runoff waters originated in specific areas. Given the above, this study aimed to identify potential areas to set detention basin on Wenzel watershed, located at Rio Claro/SP/Brazil. The factors that influence the allocation of the detention basin are: depth of bedrock, water table level, soil conditions, slope, volume of detention and land use and occupation. Suitable areas were evaluated by using multicriteria analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). As result, maps of areas suitable for the deployment of these basins were generated. The areas which had favorable characteristics to deployment were highlighted by multicriteria analysis, generating a map with the capability of allocating a detention basin. The application of geotechnology in urban planning has been demonstrated as a useful tool and can be used in intervention studies to consider several factors. Once implemented, the multicriteria analysis can assist the management of cities, selecting the best areas for retention/detention basin implementation.
