Resumo
Rivers of South America carry a large amount of suspended sediment. Global studies have shown an increase in erosion rates and, at the same time, an increase in retention rates by damming rivers. Here, we briefly present the daily continental sediment model for South America MGB-SED SA. The model was calibrated and validated using in-situ sediment measurements, and its performance was evaluated using the correlation coefficient (r) and the BIAS. Results from the MGB-SED SA model have agreement against observed suspended sediment discharge (QSS). 66% and 54% of sediment stations showed r-values above 0.5 in the calibration (Cal) and validation (Val), respectively. For BIAS (%), 94% (Cal) and 85% (Val) of stations showed values between -100% and 100%. We conclude that the MGB-SED SA model was able to perform sufficient accurate estimates for several stations, which was evaluated using in-situ measurements.
