Resumo
Water classification for fish farming may help rural producers, companies, and environmental agencies to acquire proficiency in monitoring production and environmental issues. Thus, this study aimed to develop a water classification system for fish farming (SISCAPIS) as a proposal to sustainably manage fish production and to support environmental monitoring. We defined five categories: Very Poor, Poor, Medium, Good and Excellent. As standard. we considered nine variables and their respective reference values: water transparency, pH, nitrite concentration, ammonia concentration, water temperature, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and total phosphorus concentration. The experiment was carried out by monitoring the water quality in a recirculation system of Pseudoplatystoma spp. cultivation. In a nutshell, the water classification during the cultivation period varied from Good to Excellent representing the water quality and corroborating the SISCAPIS validation.
