Resumo

The natural phenomenon called "terras caídas"is a problem that affects the urban structures over the MadeiraRiver's bank, in Porto Velho (RO). Therefore, this paperproposed to evaluate containment solutions using commercially available geosynthetic materials. Technical viability for the filling two kind of geotextile tubeswas analyzed, the SoilTain® DW and the SoilTain® CP, produced by HUESKER, in order to suggestthe best option to be used in an erosion control project on the right bank of the river. According to the norms of DNIT, laboratory tests were carried out for the characterization of the river sludge, which was used to fill one of the tubes. In order to avoid that fines particles, that compose the riverbedsludge, would obstruct the pores of the SoilTain® DW geotextile tubes, a kind of polymerwas addictedin ordertoassist the flocculationof the sludge and facilitate drainage. Tests werecarried out to analyzethe water percolation during the filling of each SoilTain® alternative. The SoilTain® CP tube, was chosenas the best alternative to be used in an erosion control projectbecauseitpresented better performance, due to itsefficiency in water's drainage, and the ease of filling it with the sludge.
