TheabilityoftheCONCEPTSmodeltopredictstreambankerosionindisturbedstreamswastestedthroughitsapplicationtoa270?mreachalongtheYonabaCreekinMississippi,USA.Modelpredictionswerecomparedwithcrosssectionresurveysof8transectsalongthemodelingreachfora13?monthperiod(February2009toMarch2010).Streambankgravitationalfailurewasthedominantmechanisminducingstreambankerosionforthestudiedreach.ResultsshowedthatCONCEPTSwasaccurateinpredictingtopwidthretreatandstreambankfailuresintimeandmagnitude.CONCEPTSsimulationyieldedstreambankdegradationpredictionscomparabletothoseobservedduringthestudiedperiod.Amaximumannualwideningrateofabout3.62?mandannualstreambanksedimentloadofabout2,000?Mgofstreambankmaterialwereassessedbybothmethods;fieldmeasurementsandCONCEPTSmodeling.However,CONCEPTSdidnotaccountforsedimentdepositionthatoccurredonthestreambank,aconditionthatslightlyreducedtheobservednetamountofsedimentyieldcontributedbyin?streamprocesses.CONCEPTSisatoolcapabletosupportdecisionmakingregardingreductionofsedimentloads,especiallyforassessmentofin?streammanagementprocessesandevaluationofstabilizationoferodingstreambanksand/orstreamrestorationdesigns.
