Resumo

The Amazon basin is the largest basin in the world and transportsabout 567,106 tons of sediment per year to the Atlantic Ocean. Despite its importance, the application of mathematical models that estimate the soil erosion in the basin and the transport ofsediment in rivers is still a challenge. This work presents preliminary results of a study that seeks to understand the natural processes related to erosion and sediment transport in the Amazon Basin. The model was calibrated comparing the simulated discharge data with data observed by the National Water Agency (ANA) and the SO HYBAM Observation Service. The calibration resulted in a satisfactory adjustment of the data used in the model, generating preliminary results that allowed the identification of important sediment dynamics characteristics of the Amazon Basin.
