DETERMINAÇÃO E ANÁLISE DO CAMPO DE VELOCIDADE DOS SEDIMENTOS DE FUNDO NA BOCA DO AMOSTRADOR HELLEY-SMITH

The intrusive equipment (Helley-Smith), for bedload sampling of the fluvial channels, causes changes in the water velocity field near the collector opening, and thus may also alter the magnitude of the displacement of bottom particles. The objective of this work is to perform DPIV analysis to qualitatively evaluate bottom sediment collection with the Helley-Smith equipment in a sandybedriver. A top view video shoot was taken at the collector opening, at the time of collection, with a duration of 7.5 minutes. With DPIV processing, we identified acceleration of the bottom particles as they approached the mouth of the equipment, as well areas of convergence and vorticity of sediments towards to the collector, which may overestimate sampling. However, there are difficulties in analyzing the collection, and due to channel morphologyand the presence of organic matter, the samples can be unrepresented or underestimated.
