Looking for alternatives to the monitoring of sediment transport in rivers and lakes, the turbidimeter helpsin the understanding of sediment dynamicswhen properly calibrated. The equipment operates continuously,obtaining time space information. Thatcontributes to the decision-making and strategic planning of water use in river basins. Thus, thisstudy characterizes the aspects involved in the calibration such as sampling of suspended sediments and the stability and efficiency of the equipment probe. The turbidimeter probe calibrations by spot sampling and vertical integration showed satisfactory adjustments; however,the equation must be adjustedduring the eventsunder monitoring conditions. The equipment isan excellent option in the monitoring suspended sediment transport when properly calibrated consideringlocal characteristics.
