Resumo

Water erosionis the main form of soil degradation and causes damage to water quality and soil productivity. It is important to quantify the erosive potential of rainfall in order to implement measures that improve soil management. Thispresent workevaluated the erosive potential of the rainfallin a spatial and temporal way in the Maquinériver basin, located at Rio Grande do Sulstate, based on data from 8rain gaugeswithrainfall series longer than 20 years. The lowest valuesof rainfall erosivitywere found in Novemberand thelargestin February. The highestannual erosivity value found was 7142.2 MJ.mm. ha-1.h-1.year-1and the minimum 4300.8 MJ.mm. ha-1.h-1.year-1. In general, the erosivity of the basin can be classified as medium. The study also pointed outthatthe greatest erosive potential was found in the lower part of the basin.
