Resumo
Occupation and land uses are intrinsically related to your own stability. Due to growing of population and their occupation on hillslopes and floodplains, there is a need of understanding the factors that can influence the slope stability. In this context the present paper aims to perform a review about the influence of vegetation in slope stability considering its characteristics. In general, vegetation contributes to the increase of soil resistance, reducing its moisture by evapotranspiration and attenuating erosion by rainfall interception. The lever effect that happens due to strong winds can cause several damages as fall of trees and landslides, especially at the presence of large trees. In the same way, the weight of the trees can strongly contribute for these phenomena together with high slopes and specific soil properties. In addition, the development of woody debris from fallen trees can change hillslopes and the fluvial environments due its dynamics. Finally, trees presenting different levels of protection against rockfalls according to each individual characteristics, both positive and negative, since it is dependent on the region?s characteristics.
