Resumo
Recent advances in hydrological modeling have allowed the development of coupling approaches that simulate hydrodynamic processes related to floodplains, flood wave diffusion, backwater effects, as well as reservoirs for flood attenuation. This study presents an application of the MGB model for the Itajaí-Açu river basin in Santa Catarina state in Brazil, with an integrated approach that simulates reservoir routing in the three existing flood control dams in the basin. Results indicate a satisfactory model calibration with both floodplain and reservoir effects. Nash-Sutcliffe metric values ranged between 0,54 and 0,84. Analysis of flood frequency curves in different simulation scenarios indicates a major role of floodplains on flood attenuation in Itajaí do Oeste and Itajaí-Açu mainstem rivers, while reservoirs in Itajaí do Norte and Itajaí do Sul present a major relevance. The developed model allows the generation of flooded areas maps at different simulation scenarios (e.g., construction of new dams or levees), representing an interesting tool for flood management at the basin scale.
