Resumo
There is a growing demand for tools that support integrated water resource management in Brazil. However, one of the main challenges to advancing this integration is the limited spatiotemporal coverage of groundwater monitoring networks, which has constrained studies on surface?groundwater interaction dynamics in Brazil. In this study, we present a compiled and standardized dataset of well data from projects developed by the Geological Survey of Brazil. These data have undergone rigorous quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure accuracy, in accordance with principles of transparency and data integrity. The dataset includes variables relevant to integrated water resource management, such as distance to the nearest river, land use, and aquifer characteristics. We believe the potential applications of this dataset are wide-ranging. Here, we demonstrate two specific applications: (i) identifying the potential direction of flow between Brazilian rivers and aquifers; and (ii) estimating the capture fraction of Brazilian rivers. Ultimately, we hope this dataset fosters collaboration among researchers in groundwater hydrology, surface water hydrology, and water management.
