Resumo
This study investigates the suspended sediment concentration in five major brazilian rivers (Amazonas, Araguaia, Doce, Madeira, and São Francisco) using three different data sources: the Agência Nacional de Águas e Saneamento Básico, the sediment model MGB-SED AS, and satellite estimates from Hidrosat. The analysis covers the period from 1988 to 2018, except for the Doce River, which is limited to 2015 due to the collapse of the Fundão dam in Mariana-MG. Comparative and dispersion graphs were generated to evaluate the accuracy and consistency of the different data sources, using BIAS, relative RMSE, and the angular coefficient of trend lines. The results showed variations generally acceptable between in situ data and estimated data from modeling and satellite. MGB-SED AS showed greater consistency than Hidrosat. However, both methods exhibited specific variations and challenges, particularly in the Araguaia, Doce, and Madeira rivers. The analysis of coincident days highlighted the complexity of modeling and monitoring sediments. It was observed that, although MGB-SED AS provides more reliable estimates compared to Hidrosat, the integration of multiple data sources is essential for efficient and sustainable water resource management. In this context, continuous improvements in the models and calibration of satellite data are recommended to better align with in situ data.
