Resumo
The aim of this study is to map flood-prone areas along a stretch of the Santa River in the Recuay district, assessing the risk to archaeological remains of the Recuay culture. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and HEC-RAS software were used, comparing conventional geomorphological data with information from a Digital Elevation Model - SRTM 1 Arc-Second, processed using GIS. The results of a hydrological study of the Santa River carried out by the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) were integrated as input data to the model. Preliminary results identify critical flood-prone areas requiring immediate cleaning and dredging interventions, as well as future protective measures to safeguard lives, cultural and archaeological heritage, promote sustainable economic development, and address challenges posed by climate change. In conclusion, intervention in these areas is crucial to mitigate flood risks and comprehensively protect the cultural and economic legacy of the region.
