Resumo

Urbanization causes changes in the landscape and water processes, increasing the risks associated with extreme events such as droughts and floods. This study aims to map the urban risks related to extreme drought and flood events in Brazil and the United States between 2014 and 2024. A systematic search of the Scopus and Web of Science databases was employed, followed by analysis using the bibliometrix tool in the R language, an analysis of terms in the Phyton language and the spatialization of data in the QGIS software. The review resulted in 192 articles after removing duplicates. The results showed a predominance of studies focused on flooding, water crisis management, climate change, green infrastructure and urban resilience. The states in Brazil and the USA most affected by these risks were mapped, highlighting the geographical dispersion of vulnerabilities. It is concluded that, despite the concentration of research on floods, there is a gap in the study of droughts, indicating the need for research focused on these events, as well as on the combined impacts of droughts and floods, capable of improving urban water risk management strategies.
