Resumo
This paper presents a comparative study of analytical and numerical integration methods for the evaluation of the exponential integral function E1 also known as the Theis well function W for confined aquifers. A new efficient smoothing procedure is proposed, obtained by singularity subtraction, for numerical integration of a nearly singular case. The computational efficiency of this procedure for selected relative accuracy is compared with that of other approximation or exact methods. Some relevant computational issues for the Gauss quadrature methods are discussed.
