Resumo
The deployment of LoRaWAN networks contains theoretical challenges due to the lack of an appropriate model to estimate its operability. To accelerate the area mapping process in projects using the technology, this work compares simulation using the Longley-Rice irregular terrain model with measurement results in a strongly irregular terrain. Using a properly configured simulation tool, an area mapping was performed to determine the results for both line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight links. The testing environment was carefully designed to ensure the reliability of the experiments. With this, it can be concluded that evaluating a coverage area for LoRaWAN communications with software tools in a flat environment presents a satisfactory result, but lacks a more appropriate channel model for terrain with relief. The positive result is that the use of this technology in mountainous regions can achieve greater coverage in practice than that found in simulation software.
