Resumo
Permeable Pavements (PP) has gained attention for increasing the resilience of cities against urban flooding. However, few studies have evaluated the individual influence of each layer of PP on runoff using measured experimental data. Yet, this issue has a gap because unsaturated flow under transient conditions is not commonly considered. The objective is to simulate unsaturated flow through the bottom drainage layer, here called drainage, in PP. We used the numerical model Hydrus-1D with the Levenberg-Marquardt parameter optimization algorithm. The input data for Hydrus-1D were measured in an experimental plot of PP. We performed simulations for four individual measured rainfall events at a sub-hourly scale. Our results show the high quality of goodness-of-fit (NSE > 0.95), small mean error (both MAE and RMSE < 0.20 cm), and insignificant super and underestimation (-7.10 ? Pbias ? 0.77) of the model in relation to the measured drainage data. We find that the wear layer majorly influences drainage. Therefore, despite emphasizing the storage layer's design, decision-makers should adopt more specific criteria for selecting PP?s wear layer materials.
