Resumo
The dams are of great importance for the semiarid region of the State of Ceará. The dams are of great importance for the semiarid region of the State of Ceará. The present work indicates as a contribution and relevance the need to reduce the transport of sediments in the Acaraú River basin upstream of the Açude Araras dam, because if a decrease in sediment transport is not made soon, the reservoir will significantly decrease its capacity. For the accomplishment of this work, visits were made in loco to the Açude Araras, as well as bibliographic research. It was possible to conclude that from 1958 to 2019, the Açude Araras reservoir decreased its water storage capacity, with a loss of 109,000,000m3 of water, resulting in the silting of the reservoir.
