Resumo
The lack of environmental planning linked to the disorderly occupation of large urban centers has significantly contributed to the occurrence of erosion processes and silting in Urban Watersheds (UWs). Thus, the objective of this study was to develop and apply the Sediment Production Susceptibility Index (SPSI) in the UWs Coqueiro I and Coqueiro II, located in the municipality of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. The method used was the Analysis Hierarchical Process (AHP). The indicators selected for the composition of the SPSI were: Soil Type, Average Slope, Vegetation Cover and Unpaved Streets. The results showed that the susceptibility to sediment production is higher in UWs that are in the process of occupation, in relation to UWs already densely occupied. In addition, it was concluded that the production of sediments in urban areas is influenced by both natural and anthropic factors, and the SPSI can help municipalities in the environmental planning of cities and in the adoption of preventive measures for silting up watercourses and clogging of drainage systems of UWs, avoiding environmental, social and economic problems for the population and public administration.
