Resumo

Knowing the behavior of the hydrosedimentological cycle is essential for good management of water resources. The study of the sediment flow admits the diagnosis of possible impacts over time, becoming an environmental indicator. According to recent research, the Doce River, located between the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, undergoes great processes of landscapemodification, still little understood. It is necessary to understand the dynamics of the flow and the processes of sediment erosion and deposition in the region. Most simulation models for sediment transport in channelsare one-dimensional and allow to understand the evolution of the river. In this context, the objective of this paperwas to simulate and evaluate the flow and sediment transport in the section of the Doce River using HEC-RAS. The results were compared tothose who were observed and simulated,using the Yang transport equation, wich indicatedthat the program showed good applicability for a short time. It was possible to observe that the section studied shows a greater tendency to sedimentation. There was a great change in sediment production and sediment transport capacity inrainy periods, which was expected. Further studies will be carried out to complete the analysis of the model.
