Resumo

The sediment transport in watersheds is directly related to the morphology, topography, vegetation cover and soil composition, these factors will directly influence the amount of sediments that will reach the beds of the water bodies of these hydrographic basins. The sediments that reach the water bodies compromise the quality of the water. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the seasonality of sediment production both in the dry season and in the rainy season, in the Rio Formoso basin in the municipality of Bonito -MS, which besides having the potable water supply of the municipality from Rio Formoso counts on tourism to be part of the local economy. Five sampling points were chosen, where liquid discharge, suspended sediment sampling and bed sediment sampling were performed, and it was possible to calculate the total daily solid discharge at each measured point. Analyzing sediment discharges at points, it can be observed that, except for the dry period of point two, all other points in both periods, presented a predominance in the solid bed discharge, due to the predominance of the sandy soil of the region, which provides sedimentation, increasing the risk of sedimentation of water bodies and justifying the higher amount ofsediment transported by the bottom in relation to those transported in suspension. In the rainy season there was a great increase in the amount of sediment transported daily in relation to the dry season, suggesting a direct influence of the rain in the sediment production. The results showed the high capacity of sediment production in the rainy season, with the exception of points one and four, and low sediment transport capacity during the dry period at points one, two, three, point four presents averageproduction capacity and point five presents high capacity of sediment production, being necessary to make different decisions between the points of the hydrographic basin of Rio Formoso.
