Resumo

Water erosion is one of the main causes of soil degradation. Although there are reliable methodologies for monitoring the quantity and quality of sediments in relation to the identificationof primary sources, the existing techniques are not adequate as a tool for the management of water resources. In view of the need to improve these techniques, the main objective of this work was to develop and apply the tracer to monitor soil movement andidentify sediment sources. Two rare earth sources were used in the synthesis of this tracer: a commercial of high purity and high cost; and an alternative source of lower cost and lower purity. This alternative source is a residue from the commercial extraction process of rare earths. The tracers obtained were characterized by X -ray diffractometry and X -ray fluorescence, in order to verify the modification of the structure after the ion exchange with the rare earths and their chemical composition. In addition, the tracer was submitted to mobility test in flow plots (20m x 5m). The results of the characterization allowed to confirm the incorporation of the chemical signature in the tracers. The mobility test proved to be satisfactory and it was possible to partially recover the tracer in the collecting channel.
