Resumo

The city of Teresina is located between the rivers Parnaíba and Poti. Being a river town is subject to extreme hydrological events. As a way of minimizing the damages resulting from these events, the Critical Events Alert System of the Parnaíba River Basin - SACE/Parnaíba was implemented by the Teresina CPRM, RETE / CPRM, in early 2016. In order to increase the safety of the beneficiary populations and considering that the confluence of the Poti River in the Parnaíba River creates variable runoff conditions that are difficult to predict, RETE/CPRM chose to calibrate a hydrodynamic model that would allow greater security in the evaluation of possible areas affected by riverside floods of the Parnaíba and Poti rivers in the urban areas of Teresina / PI and Timon / MA. The products resulting from the processing consist of shapefile polygons corresponding to the floodable areas associated with the expected maximum flows for Teresina Chesf - 34690000 and Fazenda Cantinho II - 34789000 stations for the return periods of 2, 5 and 10 years. Despite the limitations, it is believed that the spots determined here are sufficiently precise to indicate to the competent bodies the areas most susceptible to flooding and that require greater attention in the implementation of structural measures of protection, occupancy control and planning of measures of the occurrence of critical flood events.
